20" Log Wrap In Process

After (aspen logs, alternate view)

  • Our "log wraps" provide a way to cover a structural post or beam so it looks like a log structure. The pieces are cut to fit together tightly, typically held by screws.
  • Gives you a rustic log cabin look, while still having a modern structure underneath.
  • Can be used on a large scale, covering posts, beams, doorways, trusses, etc.
  • Wraps can be four-sided (for posts), or three sided (for beams.) Or others.
  • These were used on the Westcliffe Roundwood Pavilion, covering 10" x 10" corner posts so they look like large log posts.
  • Installation is typically by holding the pieces in alignment with ratchet straps, and fastening the four pieces together with customer supplied deck or structural screws. In addition, construction adhesive may be applied to hold the pieces together better. Seams are usually visible and (optionally) may be filled with wood putty after several weeks of the wood drying. Log wraps may show cracks or "checking" common to logs initially and more as they dry.
  • Installation needs to be promptly done after delivery, to hold pieces firmly together in place during the on-site drying process (natural log wood has moisture and may shrink during drying -- we therefore mill the log wraps to fit loosely over posts or beams being covered.
  • Email or call for a price quote based on your desired dimensions and wood species. Example Pine and Aspen pricing is below the pictures. Other species and character are more.
  • Bark-on log wraps may require special handling and have many considerations. Special selection fee may apply.
  • All prices reflected on this website are priced for pick up from our main milling location in Westcliffe.
  • Shipping by motor freight or trucking available at additional cost.

Additional info:

  • To determine what size log is needed to cover your post or beam, add 6" to dimension of post or beam.  Example: to cover a 4"x4" post, you would need a log with a top diameter of 10" minimum. (4" + 6" = 10"). Larger than 6" posts may take larger logs  -- scale drawings are needed.
  • Aspen specific--the white bark look of a Aspen tree is caused by a light powder on the tree itself. If this is the desired look a coating of watered down white latex paint may be needed to reach the desired whiteness.  This is not a service offered by Greenleaf but has worked for many of our customers.
  • Wood preparation by sanding and use of fillers and the application of finish is up to the customer.  Spruce logs typically are coated with a clear polyurethane, and hand peeled aspen logs are sometimes coated with commercially available whitewash.

Pine and Aspen pricing estimates listed below as of February, 2022 (subject to availability and my change without notice.) Other species and character are more. Bark-on logs may not be available and may cost more due to special handling. Special selection fee may apply.

Final prices with all costs including packaging, handling, and delivery will be provided by formal quote.
