Aspen logs are naturally green/gray and develop over time some white color by a white powdery substance on the bark. More so in stands of larger trees. The white powdery color is delicate and tends to come off. We try to carefully handle the logs to minimize this. Sometimes in the forest, direct sunshine on the bark causes the trees to look more white, especially in contrast to evergreens nearby. Aspens naturally have far less white than birch, and sometimes the whitish color is only on one side of the trees. Please keep this in mind when ordering.
If you want better white color, we suggest trying a simple whitewash application of white latex paint diluted with water. Different concentrations can be experimented with to get the amount of white color you desire. Avoid coating the knots so they will give contrast with the white wash. This technique may help duplicate the white powder look seen on older larger aspens.
